How Effective is Evangelism Among Migrant Labor?

Andrew

Sometimes, we are asked how effective our MMK ministry is, in particular with regards to lasting fruit. What about the doctrine of   predestination that is in terms of salvation of souls? (Eph1:4)

I suppose the question is valid when we consider that many of these workers who have accepted Christ through our work of evangelism are here only for a short stint of maybe four years during which they have work their guts out for a living. What happens when they   return to their homeland?  Did the seed we planted, grew and bore  fruit or did it just fizzle out?

It’s encouraging to note that our labor indeed was fruitful. Praise be to God. This is based on visitations made to the converts in their   homeland where evangelism is almost forbidden by law.

The report we received from visitations made by MKK full time workers to two countries was that the  converts shared their salvation and evangelised among family members, friends and neighbors! This is something of a breakthrough since under the same circumstances, foreign missionaries would not only have to face police surveillance and the law of the country but would need time to establish friendship   before presenting the Gospel.

Through the guidance of His Hand, we observe that several approaches which MMK embarked upon over these several years have yielded much fruit. These approaches include the following :

  1. Doing intentional evangelism by creating avenues for the new believers to exercise their new found faith (Putting the right DNA into the new converts)
  2. Focus on fixed areas to develop friendship over a period of time instead of ‘hit and run’ evangelism.
  3. Emphasis on discipline instead of counting converts.
  4. Develop leadership roles by allowing these converts to take the lead in preaching station during Sunday services.
  5. Last but not least, prayer and much prayer without which there would be not lasting fruit.

A recent project undertaken by the MMK is to establish the Theological Education Fund to walk the extra mile for those who felt called to dedicate their lives for the ministry work.

We’re reminded of the verse John15;16:– You did not choose me, but I chose you and appoint you to go and bear fruits—fruits that will last.

John15:5…………if a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear fruits by itself……….
